Election Season Reminders

The November 5 General Election will be here before we know it, and now is the time to make sure you are informed on the issues and candidates, to make sure your voter registration information is current, and that you know your options for voting early, via absentee ballot or in person on Election Day. So, here’s a rundown of everything you need to know.

One Stop Shop for Ohio Voting Information

The VoteOhio.gov website is your go-to site for finding everything you need to know about voting in Ohio, including:

  • Registering to vote
  • Voting information, such as ID requirements, and how to find your voting district
  • Information for voters with disabilities
  • Voting by mail, including how to request an absentee ballot, tracking your ballot, and information for military and overseas voters.
  • Voting early in-person
  • Voting on Election Day information

Voter Registration Deadline – October 7
The deadline to register or update your voter registration in advance of the November 5 General Election is Monday, October 7.

If you have legally changed your name, you must download, complete, sign and mail a Voter Registration and Information Update Form to your local Board of Elections by the October 7 deadline. Click here for more information on this requirement and to access the necessary form.

Voting Options
As an alternative to in-person voting on Election Day, the following options are available:

  • Early In-Person Voting – beginning October 8, all registered voters may request and vote an absentee ballot in person at the Franklin County Board of Elections office, located at 1700 Morse Road in Columbus, per the following dates and hours:
    • October 8-11: 8 am-5 pm
    • October 14-18: 8 am-5 pm
    • October 21-25: 8 am-6 pm
    • Saturday, October 26: 8 am-4 pm
    • Sunday, October 27: 1 pm-5 pm
    • Monday, October 28: 7:30 am-7:30 pm
    • Tuesday, October 29: 7:30 am-8:30 pm
    • October 30-November 1: 7:30 am-7:30 pm
    • Saturday, November 2: 8 am-4 pm
    • Sunday, November 3: 1 pm-5 pm
  • Absentee Voting By Mail – all Ohio voters whose registration information is current can request an absentee ballot. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is three days before the election. If you mail your absentee ballot, it must be postmarked by the day before the election in order to be counted. You may also return your absentee ballot in person to the Franklin County Board of Elections by 7:30 pm on Election Day.

Call for Poll Workers

The Franklin County Board of Elections hires approximately 5,500 community-minded individuals to help operate polling locations each election day. Training and compensation is provided. You must be a registered voter in Franklin County and available to work on election day. Efforts are made to place poll workers at convenient locations, which include public schools, township halls, libraries and churches.
