“Our Experience” Creative Women of Color

On view July 1-August 16
Reception July 21, 3-5 pm

Creative Women of Color is a collective of African American women artists whose mission is to educate, encourage, inspire and provide a creative connection with the community for the purpose of advancing the arts. The exhibit, “Our Experience,” shares Creative Women of Color’s creativity, love for their craft, and life experiences through various mediums. The art tells a story and creates a platform to make a difference. The artists hope you will discover that we all have a story and need an avenue to express it, that we are more alike than different, and art brings us closer together by celebrating on another’s gifts and talents.

Golf (under repair) – artist John Charles Davies

On view August 24-October 25
Reception August 25, 3-4 pm

An exhibition of 18 sculptural reliefs inspired by golf courses and created with unique and everyday items.

Artist Statement:  My work has often been referred to as esoteric. Blending the esoteric with my passion for ambiguity has presented many challenges aesthetically during the past two years as I developed my exhibition – GOLF(under repair). Beginning with my exploration of the under repair theme which I included in my retrospective in 2006 exhibition – “Paint brush under repair” and “Copper beam under repair.” The reasoning behind my selection of golf as the subject for the current show is still a mystery to me. Perhaps it’s one of the few sports who’s venues are never the same from day to day, course to course, hole to hole, from regulation to miniature, from earth to the moon.
