McCoy Road Improvements Project
6-7:30 pm, Thursday, October 17, 2019
In 2020, as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, the section of McCoy Road from Kenny Road to Mountview Road is slated for a new waterline, roadway resurfacing, as well as spot curb and gutter repairs. A key goal is to not only replace the aging infrastructure, but to maintain the residential feel of this primary connector, while not congesting traffic flow. In August, an online survey was made available seeking resident input on the two primary options—to proceed with the road diet and addition of bike lanes OR to make no changes. In summary, the survey was completed by 913 people, with 564 (61.77%) favoring a road diet. The Engineering Division recommends implementing a road diet– converting the four-lane undivided roadway to a two-lane roadway with a two-way left turn lane. All turn lanes at signalized intersections will be evaluated to reduce delays if needed. Benefits include reduced vehicle speeds, improved mobility and access, addition of east/west bicycle lanes, reduced collisions and injuries and improved livability and quality of life.

The project will improve Mountview Road from Fishinger Road to Zollinger Road while also addressing walkability and flooding concerns along the corridor. As part of the City’s 2020 Capital Improvement Program, this section of Mountview Road is slated for street resurfacing, new curb and gutter, improvements to the storm sewer system, water main replacements, a new sidewalk on the west side of Mountview and street trees.
