Over the summer and fall of 2019, the City’s Parks & Recreation Department began planning for the replacement of the playground at Reed Road Park. Through this process, resident feedback was gathered through a serious of activities: a survey regarding playground styles, an open house allowing residents to discuss proposed improvements and final design options, and a follow up survey for residents to help select the final design.
The final design (pictured above) was shared with the community in October features a large climber, slides, monkey bars and a rope bridge. To help provide more shade, a large shade umbrella will be installed near the center of one of the playground elements–in addition to the existing trees surrounding the playground–to help keep equipment cool on hot, sunny days.
Work is now about to begin on this project. Demolition of the old playground is scheduled to begin the week of January 20, weather permitting. Installation of the new equipment is expected to begin late February/early March, with the goal of bringing the playground back online in time for warmer weather.
The Parks & Recreation Department is excited to share this final design of Reed Road Park Playground with the community, and would like to thank everyone that participated to help ensure the playground continues to provide a fun and safe place for children for years to come.
