UA Parks & Rec Launches Renovation Process for Fancyburg Park

UA Parks & Rec has selected The Edge Group, a Columbus-based landscape architecture and urban design firm, to spearhead the master planning process for Fancyburg Park. Nestled on 25 acres on Upper Arlington’s western edge, Fancyburg Park features baseball diamonds, sports fields, a shelter house, playground, story walk, tennis and pickleball courts, and a nature area.

As the City of Upper Arlington embarks on this visioning process, the primary objective is to enhance the park’s amenities while preserving its distinctive character, which makes it a beloved destination for both residents and neighbors. UA Parks & Rec will use the 2018 Parks & Recreation Comprehensive Plan, a strategic document guiding future decisions on optimizing the City’s limited park land and facilities to meet residents’ recreational desires.

Kicking off in the fall of 2024, the first phase of this project will involve a detailed study of Fancyburg Park’s existing conditions and usage. This phase will be complemented by a community engagement process designed to capture residents’ feedback on the current facilities and to solicit ideas for potential improvements.

Following the initial phase, The Edge Group will develop concepts for park enhancements, which will be presented to the community for feedback before moving to the final design stage. Funding for these park improvements has been allocated within the 2027 and 2028 Parks Capital Improvements Program.

The collaboration between The Edge Group and UA Parks & Rec aims to create a revitalized Fancyburg Park that continues to serve as a vital community hub, meeting the evolving needs and desires of Upper Arlington’s residents.
