New U.S. Flag Retirement Box Available at Fire Station 72
Upper Arlington residents now have a convenient and respectful way to retire their worn and tattered American flags, thanks to a thoughtful donation from a local Eagle Scout candidate and Boy Scouts of America Troop 417. A new flag retirement box has been installed in the administrative lobby of Fire Station 72, providing a designated location for the proper disposal of old flags.
Max Golembiewski, an Upper Arlington High School student and member of Troop 417, spearheaded this project as part of his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. Recognizing the importance of honoring the American flag, Max collaborated with his troop and community members to design and create the retirement box.
Fire Station 72 is honored to house this flag retirement box, which symbolizes respect for our national emblem and the commitment of young community members to civic duty. Fire Chief Christopher Zimmer expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting the importance of community involvement and the positive impact of Scout-led projects.
“Max is very mature and is committed to civics and community,” said Chief Zimmer. “To be the host facility for this project is exciting and it shows his commitment to the community Eagle Scout program.”
Residents are encouraged to bring their old, worn, or damaged American flags to Fire Station 72 and place them in the retirement box. The flags will be collected and retired in accordance with proper protocols, ensuring they are disposed of with the honor they deserve.
Fire Station 72 is located at 3861 Reed Road, and the lobby is open to the public from 8 am-5 pm, Monday through Friday.
