Community Improvement Corporation Dissolved
On April 15, City Council voted to dissolve the City’s Community Improvement Corporation (CIC).
Originally formed in 1993, the CIC was a not-for-profit entity, guided by an advisory board of residents with experience in various aspects of economic development. Under Ohio Revised Code (ORC), CICs are able to purchase and sell property on a city’s behalf, and can oversee the exploration of redevelopment plans and partnerships with developers. ORC requirements also include formal management and reporting mechanisms that generate annual administrative costs to the City.
Since the City has not utilized the CIC in several years, and has no plans to acquire additional property for prospective redevelopment projects, it was determined that the UA CIC had outlived its useful life.
Moving forward, the Administration will transition the members of the CIC to an advisory body for the City’s economic development activities.
If at some point in the future, the City sees value in the tools available through a CIC, Franklin County’s Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation is available to support communities working to return distressed properties throughout the county back to productive use.
