Following improved weather conditions, the open burn ban for Upper Arlington has been lifted. The ban, which was issued by the Ohio State Fire Marshal on September 6, 2024, due to drought conditions, restricted all open burning activities, including recreational fires, fire pits, and charcoal grills, across Franklin County and over two dozen other Ohio counties.

With recent rainfall reducing the risk of fire hazards, residents can now safely resume activities that were previously prohibited. This includes the use of outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, charcoal grills, and park grills.

The Upper Arlington Fire Division, however, encourages residents to continue exercising caution when using any open flames. It’s important to keep a fire extinguisher or water on hand and ensure fires are set away from combustible materials.

All residents are required to follow city ordinances regarding open burning. The following guidelines apply to opening burning, recreational fires, and portable outdoor fireplaces within the City of Upper Arlington:

• Only seasoned firewood or clean-burning fuel may be used.
• Fires must be constantly attended by a responsible party, with adequate means of extinguishment readily available.
• Open burning is prohibited within 50 feet of any structure.
• Recreational fires should not be set within 25 feet of any structure.
• Portable outdoor fireplaces must not be operated within 15 feet of a structure.
