Some major infrastructure upgrades by Columbia Gas are tentatively scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2025, to replace old gas lines with new, federally mandated 12-inch, 16-inch, and 20-inch diameter steel pipes with safety features. These pipes are designed to service a large geographic area that extends beyond Upper Arlington’s borders.

The proposed route for the first phase will enter UA at the easternmost point of Zollinger Road (from OSU’s west campus), head south on North Star Road, west on Ridgeview Road, south on Brandon Road, then west on Northam Road to Northwest Boulevard.

As part of this phase of work, Columbia Gas plans to construct a new utility station on Ridgeview Road, replacing an existing single-family home located at 1336 Ridgeview Road. They also plan to replace an existing utility station located on Brandon Road. The buildings must adhere to City zoning requirements, so that the design, operation and maintenance blends with the surrounding neighborhood. To that end, the proposed structures must be reviewed and approved by the Board of Zoning and Planning (dates to be determined), a process that includes opportunities for public comment.

Columbia Gas has relayed to the City its commitment to proactively engage with residents in the affected areas, through mailed updates and public meetings in advance of work, and regular updates once each project begins. To that end, the planning team hosted a series of public meetings at the close of 2024. And now, a series of “Office Hours” sessions are scheduled in January at the Tremont Library:

• 5-6 pm, Monday, January 13
• 6-7:30 pm, Wednesday, January 22
• 4-5:30 pm, Monday, January 27

These sessions have no set agendas but are scheduled for residents to learn more about the project, ask questions and share any concerns that they might have.

Columbia Gas representatives will be presenting an overview of the planned infrastructure upgrades to Upper Arlington City Council, at its January 27, 2025 City Council Meeting. Public testimony will be accepted following the presentation. City Council Meetings are held at the Municipal Services Center, 3600 Tremont Road.
