Fire Division Strengthens Ranks with New Hires and Internal Promotion

The Upper Arlington Fire Division welcomed three new firefighter/paramedics during a swearing-in ceremony held on June 2, at the Municipal Services Center. Joined by family, friends, and fellow first responders, Gabriel Shuman, Abel Cuellar, and Elian Zayed took the oath of office, marking the beginning of their service to the Upper Arlington community.

Each new member received their helmet—a powerful symbol of the commitment, courage, and responsibility that comes with the role. Fire Chief Christopher Zimmer praised the group’s dedication, noting the demanding training and preparation required to reach this point.

The ceremony also recognized an important promotion within the Fire Division. Josh Bailey was officially sworn in as a Lieutenant, a reflection of his leadership, experience, and continued service to the department. His promotion underscores the Fire Division’s strong culture of professional development and mentorship.

The new firefighter/paramedics will undergo further training and orientation over the next several weeks to familiarize themselves with the division’s operations and the community they will now serve.
