Tire Take Back Events to Help Prevent Mosquito-Borne Diseases
Scrap tires pose a significant health risk to our community by creating ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which can carry deadly diseases such as the West Nile Virus. To address this pressing issue, the City of Columbus and Franklin County are hosting a series of tire take back events, providing residents with a convenient and free way to dispose of scrap tires properly.
Residents are encouraged to bring their rimless scrap tires to these events, with a limit of 10 tires per household. This initiative not only helps eliminate potential mosquito habitats but also promotes responsible waste management practices within our community.

In addition to tire disposal, free mosquito larvicide tablets, commonly known as “dunks,” will be available to residents. These tablets can be placed in standing water around homes, preventing mosquito larvae from developing into adult mosquitoes, thus further reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.
