Upper Arlington Takes Step Towards Sustainability with Expansion of Curbside Food Waste Recycling Program
Did you know that the average household tosses out around 474 pounds of food waste every year? This staggering statistic highlights the urgent need for action to reduce waste and make a positive impact on our environment.
The City of Upper Arlington is proud to offer one of the only municipal curbside food waste collection programs in Central Ohio. Partnering with Local Waste Services, the city aims to create nutrient-rich compost from food waste, diverting it from landfills where it would contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
Participating in the program is easy. Food waste is collected on your normal pick-up day, separate from your trash, recycling, and yard waste. Simply place your food scraps in the provided collection bin, and Local Waste Services will take care of the rest. Accepted items include fruit and vegetable scraps, meat, fish, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, pasta, grains, baked goods, and more.
Interested in joining the curbside food waste recycling program? We’re adding new participants each month. Click here to apply to participate today!
