The City of Upper Arlington and Upper Arlington City Schools are excited to announce an innovative partnership that will take event customization to the next level.

Starting April 1, 2025, groups that rent the Event Center at the Bob Crane Community Center will have the unique opportunity to project custom messages onto the exterior of the Upper Arlington High School Performing Arts Center. Thanks to advanced drone projection technology—developed by students in the UAHS Robotics Club—your event can now make an even bigger impression. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or community gathering, guests will be able to display personalized messages, logos, or even light shows, visible from the Skyline Terrace of the Event Center.

“The views from the Event Center are already spectacular, but we’ve always wondered, how can we make them even more memorable,” said Upper Arlington City Manager Steve Schoeny. “This partnership is a perfect example of how technology and collaboration can enhance our community’s assets in unexpected ways.”

The new feature is expected to be a major draw for event planners looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in Upper Arlington. Attendees can enjoy stunning skyline views of downtown Columbus while watching dynamic, high-resolution projections bring their messages to life. Plus, the project gives UAHS students a hands-on opportunity to develop and implement real-world technology, reinforcing the City’s commitment to education and innovation.

“Throughout the construction of the Bob Crane Community Center, I have been talking with the City Manager about how we can leverage the exterior of the Performing Arts Center.  When I heard about what our students were doing with drone projection technology, it seemed like the perfect partnership,” said Dr. Robert Hunt, Superintendent of Upper Arlington City Schools.
