Police Chief Steve Farmer Retirement Announcement
After five years of exemplary service to the City of Upper Arlington, Police Chief Steve Farmer has announced his retirement, effective February 2, 2024. A tireless advocate for both public safety and the well-being of officers, Chief Farmer has been instrumental in championing mental health awareness. Under Chief Farmer’s guidance, the department implemented innovative mental health programs, providing essential resources and fostering a culture of support for our dedicated law enforcement professionals.

Chief Farmer was a trailblazer in enhancing the technological capabilities of the Police Division. Recognizing the importance of data-driven strategies, Chief Farmer was instrumental in hiring the City’s first crime analyst, changing the department’s approach to crime prevention and investigation. Additionally, Chief Farmer led a comprehensive public safety study that has significantly contributed to Upper Arlington’s overall safety.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Chief Farmer for his exemplary service and leadership. His unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our officers and community has left a lasting mark, and we wish him a fulfilling retirement,” said Steve Schoeny, Upper Arlington City Manager. “As we move forward, we remain committed to selecting a new police chief who will build upon the legacy of excellence and trust of our Police Division.”

Lieutenant Keith Hall has been appointed to serve as interim Police Chief during this period of transition. Lieutenant Hall is a 24-year veteran of the Police Division who currently oversees the Support Services Bureau.
