Hydrant Flushing

Fire Division to Conduct Hydrant Maintenance

Hydrant Flushing Scheduled for April 14–May 2

The Upper Arlington Fire Division will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program the week of April 14. This important maintenance helps ensure hydrants remain in working order and allows crews to identify any repairs that may be needed.

Crews will be flushing hydrants on weekdays between 8 am and 6 pm. A detailed schedule and map showing where crews will be each day is available here.

Most residents won’t notice any changes to their water, but some may experience temporary discoloration. To avoid potential staining, we recommend not doing laundry on the day hydrants are flushed in your area. Before running laundry afterward:

  • Run water into a clear container to check for discoloration or sediment.
  • Let faucets run until the water is clear.
  • Run your washing machine partially filled to test for clarity, then drain the tub before doing a full load.

If discoloration affects your laundry, keep clothes damp or wet to prevent stains from setting. Cleaning products labeled as “rust remover” or “rust fighter” — available at most grocery and hardware stores — can help treat stained items.
