Cash Free Operations

  • All pools operate as cash-free facilities. Daily admission and season passes can be purchased online in advance, otherwise, patrons will be required to pay using a credit card. If you wish to use cash or a check to pay for a season pass, you can do so in the Parks & Recreation Office at the Municipal Services Center, 3600 Tremont Road (M-F, 8 am-5 pm).

Health & Safety Guidelines

  • If you feel ill, have diarrhea or are running a fever, stay home.
  • Pool patrons may bring their own snacks and beverages (no alcohol, no glass).

    PLAY UA Financial Assistance Program

    The PLAY UA Financial Assistance Program is designed to support community members who face financial barriers that may prevent them from participating in UA Parks & Recreation programs. PLAY UA will provide a 50% reduction for most program and membership fees – including summer and winter camps (with a cap of $400 for summer day camp assistance), Safety Town, and membership passes for pools, tennis and the Senior Center’s Studio 55 – for qualifying residents and those who work in Upper Arlington. The program is not available for daily admission fees or facility rentals. Assistance will be awarded as funds are available.

    Swim Lessons

    Swim Lessons

    The Learn-to-Swim program offers American Red Cross swim lessons for ages six months through adult, at all skill levels. Learn-to-Swim teaches water safety skills in logical group classes at all of our facilities.

    The Learn-to-Swim Program focuses on building skills one step at a time. By giving participants the opportunity to master one element before moving on to the next.

    Sessions

    Participants receive 10 lessons (Monday-Friday) 30-minute each (8 guaranteed) which teach swimming and water safety skills, including those listed below:

    • Water entry and exit
    • Breath control and underwater swimming
    • Buoyancy
    • Changing direction and position treading
    • Swimming on front back and side
    • General and personal water safety

      Lesson Descriptions and Prerequisites

      Parent/Guardian and Child Aquatics

      For children between the ages of six months and approximately three years.

      Familiarize children with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. Provide safety information for parents and teach techniques parents can use to orient their children to the water. Parent/guardians are expected to get in the water with the child.

      Level 1 (Seahorse):

      Introduction to Water Skills

      For the beginner who is comfortable in the water.

      Swimmers will work on: bobbing, going under water, supported front and back floating, supported rolling over from front to back and back to front, supported gliding, supported flutter kick, supported front crawl arms and jumping in.

      Level 2 (Otter):

      Fundamental Aquatic Skills

      Swimmers should already be able to: float on front and back and put their head under water.

      Swimmers will work on: independent front and back floating, independent rolling over from front to back and back to front, independent front and back glides, front crawl arms and kicks, back crawl arms and kicks, retrieving underwater objects, and jumping into water over their head.

      Level 3 (Starfish):

      Stroke Development

      Swimmers should already be: comfortable swimming front stroke and swimming on their back.

      Swimmers will work on: gliding, freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, breast stroke and dolphin kicks, retrieving objects in deeper water, treading water, jumping into deep water and compact dives.

      Level 4 (Porpoise):

      Stroke Improvement

      Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards.

      Swimmers will work on: rotary breathing, freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, scissors kick and sidestroke, whip kick and breaststroke, intro to turning at wall, treading water with modified scissors, and diving in kneeling position.

      Level 5 (Swordfish):

      Stroke Refinement

      Swimmers should already be able to: swim freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke 25 yards, scissors kick, whip kick, treading water, and dive.

      Swimmers will work on: alternate breathing, stride jump, refinement of: freestyle, backstroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick and butterfly, open turn on front and back, feet-first surface dive, and treading water.

      Polar Bear Team

      6 Week Program: June 3-July 12

      Swimmers should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 50 yds, elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, butterfly 25 yards, sidestroke 10 yards, tread water for 3 minutes, and dive.

      Swimmers will work on: all six strokes, front and back crawl flip turn, breaststroke turn, breaststroke speed turn and pullout, butterfly turn, sidestroke turn, pike and tuck surface dive, pike and tuck dive from board, tread water for five minutes, and basic water rescue. Teams will compete in two swim meets vs. other UA pools. Dates and Time TBD.

      Student to Instructor Ratio

      Instructors receive certification/training through the Upper Arlington Parks & Rec and/or American Red Cross.

      Levels 1-3 5:1 ratio

      Levels 4-5 10:1 ratio

      First Lesson Structure

      Signage will be provided where to meet instructors on deck. Instructors will spend part of the first class assessing skills. Instructors reserve the right to change placement and class time to provide the best possible learning experience for everyone. If you are unsure of your child’s level, please be sure to give us a call before registering.

      Make up Classes

      In the event we need to cancel a lesson due to conditions out of our control (weather, mechanical, etc.) we will make every attempt to schedule a make-up lesson pending availability of both instructors and facility. All make-up classes will be scheduled Saturday mornings.

      REST PERIOD
      Rest periods are on the :45 of each hour and are 15 minutes in length (i.e. from 11:45 am to Noon). All children under the age of 18 years must exit the water and remain away from the side of the pools.
      *Closing all water activities at 10:30 am to allow facility to empty and give breaks before open swim.
      **Closing during back to school is at 6 pm due to staffing and Federal requirements.

      COVID-19:
      If you are feeling unwell or have a fever, please stay home. If you are not vaccination, we encourage mask wearing when unable to social distance. We will clean common touch points regularly.

      Season Pass Definitions:
      UA Resident - An individual who either lives or works in Upper Arlington. A copy of a utility bill, lease, deed, pay stub or tax record may be requested for verification.
      Dependent Children - An unmarried person who is under 24 years of age who is currently living at home. Or a foster child who is currently living in the home, verification may be required.

      Pass Holder ID:
      The Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation Department is transitioning from a pass holder card to a pass holder key fob. the key fob will allow a pass holder to use one ID for swimming, tennis and other Parks & Recreation programming. Pass holders may pick up their key fob at the Upper Arlington Parks & Recreation office, Devon Pool, Reed Road Water Park, Northam Tennis Courts or Day Camp.

      Pass Holder Pictures:
      All pass holders are to have their photo taken for identification purposes either at the Parks and Recreation office, any of the three swimming facilities or the Northam Park Tennis Courts.

      Hardship Termination:
      All swimming and tennis membership pass sales are final except when hardship criteria can be documented. Requests for Hardship Terminations are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and must be submitted in writing to the Aquatics and Tennis Manager. Season pass fees may be refunded or issued as a credit voucher are are prorated from the start of the season regardless of use. Requests will not be accepted after August 31. A $5 processing fee is accessed on all hardship requests upon approval.

      One or more of the following criteria must be met to qualify for a Hardship Termiation:

      • Personal medical condition - provide a physician's statement on the physician's office letterhead stating the medical condition, date of condition and specifics of restrictions.
      • Relocation - outside a 25-mile radius of the Municipal Services Center - provide proof of relocation (deed or lease agreement).
      • Patron death

      Children Under 10 Years:
      All children under 10 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a paying parent or qualified caregiver.

      Severe Weather:
      In case of severe weather conditions, the City of Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to limit the use or close swimming facilities and tennis courts. If lightning, thunder or severe weather is in the area, the following procedures will be followed:

      • All pool and deck areas will be evacuated completely.
      • Patrons must exit the facility and seek shelter for their safety.
      • During a National Weather Service severe storm warning the facility will remain closed until the severe storm warning expires.
      • The National Weather Service considers a thunderstorm ended 30 minutes after the last thunder and/or lighting. At that time patrons will be allowed to re-enter the facility.
      • If the severe weather persists, or weather radar indicates severe weather throughout the day, the Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to close facilities or limit their use.

      Cold Weather:
      If the projected high temperature for the day is below 70 degrees the City of Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to limit the use or close swimming facilities. All three facilities will be closed if the projected high temperature for the day is below 60 degrees.

      Rain Checks:
      Refunds are not available to daily admissions during severe weather and unforeseen emergencies. However, rain checks will be issued to a swim facility guest who has been at the facility less than two (2) hours and for a tennis patron if less than one (1) hour of play. When requesting a rain check the guest must provide a receipt as proof of payment of the daily admission fee.

      The City of Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation Department’s priority is the safety and wellbeing of all our guests, daycares, day camps and large groups that frequently visit our aquatic facilities with children.

      Groups consist of 20‐75 guests. Groups that exceed 75 patrons would need to reserve a pool through our private rental process. 

      Groups must be pre‐registered and approved at least 2 weeks prior to the intended visit. Please complete the Group Visit Request. Requests will be reviewed to serve as many groups as possible. Click here to submit an application.

      Groups visits are available on Monday‐Friday Noon‐8pm.

      Admission Prices:

      • City of Upper Arlington pool passholders are admitted at no additional charge.
      • Each child must have their current key fob present at the time of admission.
      • Non‐members are responsible for posted daily rates.
      • Residency is based on the Agency’s address, not individual attendees.
      • Payment is required at the time of admission.

      The City of Upper Arlington reserves the right to deny access to any group:

      • Not pre‐registered/approved
      • Unable to maintain proper adult/child ratio
      • Not adhering to facility rules

      Children who are not independent swimmers or able to swim independently are required to be in a Coast Guard approved floatation device. Failure to wear Coast Guard approved floatation device will result in immediate removal from the water.

      Supervision Requirements

      Giving consideration with hot weather and crowded days, additional supervision of children is imperative. Please make certain you have the required adult supervision before coming to the pool to avoid disappointment of group members. Groups must maintain our required adult to child ratio for children under 10 years of age and the following supervision requirements:

      POOL RENTAL

      Reserve your party now! Party dates are available at Tremont Pool on Friday evenings and at Reed Road Water Park on Saturday evenings from 8:15-10:15 pm for your private gathering. Parties should be booked at least three weeks in advance. Arrange for food service from the concession stand or bring your own. Reservations can be made online or in-person at Parks & Recreation, Reed Road Water Park or Tremont Pool. Pool party fee must be paid when reservation is made. NO ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO PRODUCTS PERMITED. A reservation may be canceled 48 hours in advance for an 80% refund; 50% refund if less than 48 hours.

      TREMONT POOL SHELTER RESERVATION

      Having a birthday party or neighborhood gathering? Why not reserve the shelter at Tremont Pool? The shelter is available selected days from Noon-2 pm, 3-5 pm, and 6-8 pm. Reservation time includes any setup and clean up time. Reservation fee must be paid when reservation is made. Reservations can be made online or in-person at Parks & Recreation offices or Tremont Pool. A reservation may be canceled one week in advance for 80% refund; 50% refund if less than one week. If the pool is closed for weather or other reasons at the time of your reservation, the reservation will be rescheduled or refunded in full. NO ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO PRODUCTS PERMITED. Maximum shelter capacity is 50.

      Shelter reservation fee includes up to 10 admissions for non-members. All other guests may use season pass or pay the daily fee.
      Reservations are not available on opening day (5/23), Memorial Day (5/25), Independence Day (7/4) or Labor Day (9/7).

      POOL RULES
      Black and White Swimwear

      Please follow these rules to provide a safe, welcoming and family friendly facility for all pool participants:

      • Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or qualified guardian.
      • A parent or guardian must accompany a child in the wading pool area.
      • Do not talk with lifeguards while they are in their chair. Please refer all questions to the office.
      • All swimmers must wear appropriate swimwear. See below for more information on pool attire.
      • Running, rough play & personal conduct endangering the safety & wellbeing of others is prohibited.
      • Dunking and holding others underwater is prohibited.
      • Spitting on the pool deck or water is prohibited.
      • Swimmers using the diving area or other deep-water areas must be able to swim one length of the lap lane without stopping and tread water for 30 seconds.
      • Back dives or flips from the side of the pool or wading area is prohibited.
      • The use of rafts, tubes and other flotation devices may be restricted when the swimming load is heavy.
      • Flotation devices are not permitted in deep water areas.

      The following items are not allowed on the pool grounds:

      • Alcohol
      • Illegal drugs or substances
      • Firearms
      • Tobacco products
      • Glass bottles or containers
      • Pets – except service dogs

      Swim Attire

      The City of Upper Arlington welcomes participants of all ages, abilities, religions and cultures to our aquatic facilities. Safe swimming is important to us. All participants are required to wear swimming attire suitable for a public family aquatic environment and must meet Health and other regulatory requirements.

      Appropriate swim attire includes:
      Only clean appropriate attire designed for swimming is permitted in the water. Appropriate swimwear covers the buttocks, genitals, pubic region, and breasts of those who have them. Coverage of the breast is defined as covering the bottom of the breast to the top of the areola. Body Tape – if applied appropriately – is an acceptable form of coverage.

      Specifically, underwear/compression shorts, thongs, sports bras, and see-through swimwear are prohibited.

      In order to maintain water quality all participants are required to have control of their bladder and/or bowels. Options include:

      • Reusable or disposable swim diapers/pants such as “Gabby’s” or “Little Swimmers.”
      • Plastic pants with tight fitting elastic around the waist and legs.
      SUNDAY SWIM
      UAHS Natatorium

      We are pleased to offer Sunday Swim each Fall/Winter season. This program, held at the UA High School (1625 Zolllinger Rd), is designed for lap swimming. Registration online at parks.uaoh.net.
